AMMO ODD SPOT
Making a guest appearance at a Royal Command Concert in London may, or may not be high on one’s bucket list of things to achieve. It certainly was on the radar of two VAFA players during the mid-sixties. Both played for MHSOB and while holding down promising careers they moonlighted as members of a folk singing quartet. They were Athol Guy and Bruce Woodley who gave away their football and jobs to pursue showbiz. They became the Seekers. Following a string of chart toppers they appeared as a headline act at the 1966 Royal Command Performance. The following year, 1967, Athol and Bruce made up half of the group who were awarded Australians of the Year. Stellar achievements for two regular players from MHSOB.
