VAFA Board

Michael Hazell: President

After spending four years in the VFA/VFL, Michael moved to the VAFA in 1996 where he played and coached for thirteen seasons. He commenced his association with the VAFA with Salesian Old Boys Football Club (now St Mary’s Salesian), where he played in a senior premiership in 1996 (Division 2).

He went on to play at Old Melburnians and St Bedes / Mentone Tigers, where he won senior premierships in B Section (2002) and A Section (2008) respectively. 

Michael has also represented the VAFA in state football and has coached senior football at Salesian Old Boys Football Club, in addition to serving on its committee. 

Michael is a founder and a director of Melbourne commercial law firm Kelly Hazell Quill Lawyers. He also sits on the AFL Players Association’s Accredited Agents Board.

Michael was first elected to the VAFA Board in 2008 and was elected as President in December 2012. 

Tim Nelson: Vice President

Tim, played amateur football for a period of 10 years and was a member of the Old Paradians 1986 B Grade premiership team.  Throughout his VAFA career Tim had the good fortune to win five premiership medallions in total, 4 as a player and 1 as an official.  

In off seasons, Tim competed as a sprinter in the Victorian Athletic League winning the 70m sprint at the Stawell Gift Carnival in 1987. 

He has enjoyed a career in executive recruitment, where he is currently the Asia Pacific President of a subsidiary of a global US listed Talent Management Company, Korn /Ferry International.  Tim has developed very strong strategic, financial and marketing/business development skills.  

Tim is married to Emma and has 3 boys  - Joshua, Thomas and Edward.

He has a BA in Political Science and an MBA from AGSM, University of NSW

He was appointed to the Board in December 2010 and elected to the Board in June 2012. 

Tim was elected to be Vice-President of the Board in December 2012.

Adam Kirkwood-Scott: Treasurer

Played at Old Haileyburians Football Club from 1988 - 2000 playing 147 games. 

Adam was a member of the committee at Old Haileyburians during the period 2005- 2007 serving as treasurer in 2005 and is a proud commercial sponsor of the club since 2001. 

A qualified public certified practicing accountant, member of the Australian Society of Certified practising accountants(A.S.C.P.A ), registered Tax Agent and currently a Director and a member of the Executive Board at William Buck Vic.

 Adam started in public practice in 2000 as Eaglecott Pty Ltd and the practice grew to a level to facilitate a successful merger with chartered accounting practice William Buck Vic in 2011.

Loves the outdoors including playing golf, horse racing and spending time with the family.

Anthony Amad

Anthony first played at Marcellin OCFC in 1978. He played over 200 games and also served on the committee for 10 years as both the Vice President and the Fundraising Manager.

Anthony was elected as a VAFA board member in 2006 after serving as a representative selector since 1999.

He has served on the Football, Marketing and General Committees and his primary focus is the Big V Club, an annual gathering of former representative players.

Davina Connors-Calhaem

Davina commenced her involvement in Amateur Football as a trainer at the Old Xaverians Football Club in 1988. She continued in that capacity for 10 years sharing in the joys of several premierships. 

Davina then joined the club's committee in 1995 and took on the role of Event Organiser and Fundraiser and learnt a great deal of the workings of a sporting club. 

At this time she also returned to study Postgraduate Sports Marketing at Deakin University. She then became a vice-president in 1999 and then president in 2002, a position that she held for three years. 

Davina found these years incredibly satisfying and challenging. Professionally, Davina is a Physical Education teacher and has 3 young daughters & a son who love their Saturday afternoons at the footy. 

Davina was elected to the VAFA Board in 2005. Davina looks forward to assisting to raise the necessary funds and profile of the Association to see it continue thrive and be the best competition in the land.

Bruno Conti

Bruno has been involved with the VAFA since 1983. He played for North Old Boys over fifteen years, representing the state on sixteen occasions and was twice selected as an All-Australian Amateur. 

He captained the club for three years and eventually became club president (2000-2003). 

Bruno has served the VAFA as a state selector and since 2005 as a member of the Board. 

He was appointed Chairman of the Board in December 2006 and President in December 2009 until his resignation as President in December 2012. 

Bruno has two decades of experience in banking and has held several senior management positions with both National Australia Bank and BankWest. 

He is married to Louise and has two young daughters, Sarina and Gabriella.

Nigel Credlin

Nigel played for five seasons at Old Camberwell and played in their 2001 premiership side. He was captain of the club for two seasons and is also a Life Member of the club. Nigel played representative football for the Senior Big V side on seven occasssions and was named as an All-Australian Amateur after the carnival in the early 2000's. 

For the past three seasons Nigel has been involved in the Big V Representative program as a selector and for the past two has been Director of the Representative Program. 

Nigel has worked providing strategic investment advice at Evans and Partners since its inception in 2007. 

Nigel was appointed to the VAFA Board in 2013 and currently sits on the Football Growth and Development Sub-Committee. 

Nigel and his wife Kate have two children.

Phil De Young

Phil played 200 games of amateur football with Monash University Blues Football Club and has been associated with Monash as a player and/or official for over 40 years. During that time he served as President on several occasions. Phil also has links to some of our clubs via the schools he has worked at, including Mentone Grammar, Wesley College, Caulfield Grammar and Carey Grammar.  

In a 31 year career in education, Phil served as Head of the Senior School at Wesley's St Kilda Road campus, Head of Caulfield Grammar's Glen Eira Road Campus and Principal of Carey Grammar School.  

Away from education Phil has been a Director at a financial services company, Wilson Dilworth, and was the inaugural Chief Executive Officer at independent investment house Evans and Partners from 2011-12. 

Phil holds a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Education from Monash University and a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning from the Securities Institute of Australia.

Justin Toohey

Justin has a sporting background in cricket and community football. 

In 1997, he served as president of the VAFAUA. 

He currently Deputy CEO of the Legal Practice Liability Committee and has strong legal and strategic skills. 

Justin currently chairs the Competition Integrity Sub-Committee. 

Justin was appointed to the Board in December 2010 and elected to the Board in December 2012. 

George Voyage

George Voyage began his VAFA career in 1970 and he went on to play 240 games for Caulfield Grammarians over eighteen seasons. 

He was granted life membership of that club. Soon after, he was appointed that club's senior coach, a position he held in two stints for three years. 

In between, he was appointed to various roles for the VAFA U19 rep teams.  

In 1997, he was appointed VAFA A-D4 and C-D4 Representative Team Senior coach- and enjoyed an envious winning streak in that position with only one loss (in his first year at the helm). 

He relinquished that role in 2008 when he was elected to the board of the VAFA where he also  chairs the Football,Growth and Development Sub-Committee

George was awarded a VAFA Merit award in 2005 and the VAFA Personality of the year in 2007
