UNI BLUES SKIP CLEAR
University Blues find themselves a game clear of troubled territory after skipping clear of Caulfield Grammarians in the final quarter to win by 33 points at Sportscover Arena to conclude matches for round 10.
A tight contest was fought in wet and freezing conditions, both sides managed four goals to half time. A battle in the third quarter was almost a stalemate as each only managed behinds, Blues with four and Grammarians with the solitary score.
Into the last change and Caulfield fans would have been optimistic but they struggled to penetrate their attacking 50. With the ball mostly at Uni Blues end, Peter Summers kicked 1.4 in the last quarter alone.
Ian Prendergast was widely considered the best on the ground although he was pipped by Summers for that honour from the Inner FM commentary team.
Blues have now won two in a row and Fergus Watts can be thankful that they have stepped a game clear of the battle with Old Trinity and St Bedes / Mentone Tigers for ninth.
Caulfield's struggles to run out the game were highlighted again but can thank Max Slonin for his efforts today. Next week Caulfield travel to Carey and Uni Blues host De La Salle.
Next Sunday at Sportscover Arena, is another cracking game featuring Old Scotch and Collegians. Both are coming off losses this week will try to steady the ship of their season 2012 campaign.
