DIVISION 2 MEDAL COUNT LIVE BLOG

04.09.2012

Division 2 Live Blog for the J. FULLERTON MEDAL:

Congratulation to David West who wins the J. Fullerton Medal as the best and fairest player in Division 2 on 21 votes in an unbelievably close count. West secured the three votes in the last round of the season to win by one from Seb Mahoney on 20 votes. Last years Division 3 medallist James Musster was third with 19 votes.

West polled in 10 games of the season with the other place getters all polling in 8 games. Interestingly Jarrod Egglestone also polled in 10 matches but didn’t have the big three votes games like West did.

Here is the top 20 at the end of the count:

21 David West St Mary's Salesian

20 Sebastian Mahoney South Melbourne Districts

19 James Musster Prahran Assumption

18 Kristian Cherbakof Bulleen Templestowe

18 Jarrod Egglestone Therry Penola

18 Kye Cherian Monash Gryphons

17 Samuel Richardson Old Eltham Collegians

17 Paul Baranello Emmaus St Leos

15 Matthew Fletcher Monash Gryphons

15 Sean Miller Old Paradians

14 Daniel Mahony Old Paradians

14 Paul Donahoo Prahran Assumption

12 Steven Aquilina South Melbourne Districts

11 Angelo Rendina Old Paradians

11 David Boundy Old Paradians

10 Samuel Whiteside Old Eltham Collegians

10 Paul FLORANCE Bulleen Templestowe

10 Clint Mackie Monash Gryphons

9 Nathan Baranello Emmaus St Leos

8 Adam Sleight Prahran Assumption

8 Sabastian Ciavola Old Eltham Collegians

Round 17: Seb Mahoney takes BOG honours from his match against Monash Gryphons to storm to the top of the leader board with five votes from his past two rounds. Four players can still win outright going in to the final round with six others a chance to tie Mahoney on 20 votes. Could we have a seven-way tie? The seven players in contention are all from different clubs!

20 Sebastian Mahoney South Melbourne Districts

19 James Musster Prahran Assumption

18 David West St Mary's Salesian

18 Kristian Cherbakof Bulleen Templestowe

17 Jarrod Egglestone Therry Penola

17 Paul Baranello Emmaus St Leos

17 Kye Cherian Monash Gryphons

With just two rounds to go we have eight players within three votes of the lead. The top three didn’t poll that round but 2 votes to Seb Mahoney of South Melbourne Districts and a maximum three to Kye Cherian of Monash Gryphons has them both in contention now on 17 votes, just two votes off out leader James Musster.

19 James Musster Prahran Assumption

18 David West St Mary's Salesian

18 Kristian Cherbakof Bulleen Templestowe

17 Sebastian Mahoney South Melbourne Districts

17 Paul Baranello Emmaus St Leos

17 Kye Cherian Monash Gryphons

16 Jarrod Egglestone Therry Penola

16 Samuel Richardson Old Eltham Collegians

Round 15 a couple of two vote games from James Musster has the reigning Peter Hutchinson Medallist in the box seat to claim back to back medals in different sections. Will he add the Fullerton to his trophy room? He’ll have a tougher battle than last year when he streaked the field to win by 11 votes. Paul Baranello collects one vote to be within striking distance, just 2 votes off the pace. Sam Richardson can’t score

19 James Musster Prahran Assumption

17 Paul Baranello Emmaus St Leos

16 Jarrod Egglestone Therry Penola

16 Samuel Richardson Old Eltham Collegians

15 Sebastian Mahoney South Melbourne Districts

14 Kye Cherian Monash Gryphons

Round 14 and former J. Fullerton medallist (2009) Paul Barranello secures another three votes for Emmaus St Leo’s, could he win a second Fullerton? He is just two votes off the lead on a tight leader board.  There are six players within 2 votes of the lead. Both Cherbakof and West get two votes to be joint leaders on 18 votes.

14 Kye Cherian Monash Gryphons

13 Sebastian Mahoney South Melbourne Districts

12 Paul Donahoo Prahran Assumption

12 Steven Aquilina South Melbourne Districts

We now have a four-way tie! This is incredibly close as Cherbakof collects a couple of votes from Bulleen Templestowe’s win against St Mary’s Salesian to join Eggleston and Richardson on top. Taking the three from that game was David West. He also joins the leaders on 16 votes at the end of round 13.

Jarrod Egglestone from Therry Penola has picked up the three votes to share the lead after 12 rounds. He is of course the reigning Fullerton Medal winner. He won last year with 29 votes, he would need to turn it on to reach that number now. Egglestone shares the lead with Samuel Richardson who didn’t poll in that round.

Round 10 is complete and James Musster with two votes moves to equal first. Can he win back-to-back competition best and fairests? He won last year in Prahran Assumptions perfect season in Division 3. Paul Baranello polls three votes against Therry Penola.

Some incredibly high scoring games from players early as our top six all are in double figures. However is Old Eltham’s Samuel Richardson who leads the way on 15 votes at present. He has polled in 6 of the first nine games of the season and has a one vote lead over Kristian Cherbakof of Bulleen Templestowe.

Here is the top 15 after the first 9 rounds of the season.
