The VAFA wishes to advise that our Media and Communications Manager, Andrew Leonard, will be moving on from his position to take up a role with Hawthorn Football Club. After three years in the role, Andrew or Lenny as he is known to many in the VAFA community has enhanced every aspect of the VAFA’s vast media offerings and all at the VAFA will be sad to see him go.

VAFA CEO Michael Sholly said, “Andrew brought a great passion and energy to the role and that was applied throughout every task he undertook, whether it be the award winning VAFA TV, to the award winning radio show, our audio visual aspects of our functions, or more recently the change over to the new VAFA website, Andrew has continued to grow the role and evolve what the VAFA has to offer on a media front.”

Andrew introduced VAFA TV to the VAFA community in 2012 the same year he commenced at the Association, and in 2013, VAFA TV won the AFL Victoria Media Award for Best Online Content. In 2013, Andrew helped establish the Woodrow Medal Night in conjunction with the VAFA Awards night where a full count of the Woodrow votes, including video highlights on each round was conducted. Andrew introduced the VAFA Wraps to SEN 1116 in which he provides a weekly update on SEN about the VAFA.

In 2014 Andrew took over the hosting of the VAFA Football Show on 96.5 Inner FM and with John Kanis and Ken Petrucco interviewed a famous name that used to play in the VAFA. This show won the AFL Victoria Media Award in 2014 for Best Football Radio Show. Last year he introduced the Premier Coaches MVP Award which saw the coaches vote on the players adding another dimension to the season. Andrew also introduced the Amateur Footballer app for iPads, plus the new website this year.

The VAFA’s media numbers have grown every year that Andrew has been here, both in website visits, video views and our social media numbers and all the while Andrew has still called VAFA matches as part of 96.5FM’s Match of the Day team and been ground announcer through VAFA finals and representative matches.

There is no doubt, this role is a great opportunity for anyone seeking a career in the world of sports media. The VAFA is keen to continue to grow and support the media arm of it’s operations and invites all candidates to apply this position.

Andrew, who is expecting a second child any day now, will finish with the VAFA on 19 June. Candidates wishing to apply for the role of Media and Communications Manager should read the job advert below and send your applications to [email protected] by 5pm Friday, 5 June.
