Milney bids farewell to footy

Today marks the final game of football for Beaumaris FC forward and former AFL star, Stephen Milne.

Milne, who joined the Sharks in 2016, has been an invaluable asset for the club, helping them to their fifth senior flag (Premier B), assisting with coaching duties both at senior and junior level and leading their goal kicking in both 2016 and 2017.

He was rewarded with selection in last year’s record-breaking Big V win over AFL Victoria Country, where he starred in the first half and booted three goals.

Posting the news to Facebook, Beaumaris said, “there is no doubt about the impact Milney has had around the club”.

“He has embraced the juniors at every opportunity and encouraged their participation in pre and post-match activities. His involvement in club events has been first class.”

Milne is one of the greatest small forwards in AFL history after kicking 574 goals in 275 games for St Kilda. He was twice selected as an All-Australian (2011-12) and led the Saints’ goal kicking four times.

The Sharks take on Old Haileybury at Banksia Reserve so make sure you get down to bid farewell to the football champion.
