Parkside, Cobras going Div 3-side in 2016

Parkside have turned a fifth-placed home and away finish in their first season back in the VAFA into a grand final appearance and Division 3 in 2016 on the back of their 67-point victory against North Brunswick. An eight-goal to two opening quarter did the damage for the Red Devils as they opened up a 39-point quarter time buffer. Refusing to alleviate the pressure at any stage, they piled on another 11 goals to six to run out the match in reasonable comfort. Shane Potter was once again the main destroyer for Parkside with six goals, while Shane McLaren did the damage around the ground in a best-on performance.  North Brunswick were a success story in themselves, finishing the home and away season in sixth and defeating the division favourites, Canterbury, on their way to today’s preliminary final. Parkside will now wait for Canterbury and Box Hill North to play tomorrow to find out their opponents in next week’s big dance.

Canterbury put two consecutive losses behind them as they reprised their role as a dominant Division 4 force with a 48-point win against Box Hill North at Garvey Oval. Leading by 24 points at the last break, the Cobras piled on another five goals to one in the final term to run over the top of the gallant Demons outfit. Scott Fitzgerald was the star of the show, booting four goals in a best-on-ground performance. Before entering Division 3, the Cobras are set to meet an in-form Parkside in a Division 4 grand final set to ignite the VAFA.
