The Victorian Amateur Football Association is excited to announce Stuart Powell has been reappointed as senior coach of the Big V representative side ahead of our June 9 clash against the South Australian Amateur Football League (SAAFL).

Powell, who has been at the helm since 2016, led his chargers to a record-breaking 82-point victory over AFL Victoria Country at Frankston City Oval last year and he is excited to continue that form in 2018.

“While it was an extremely positive campaign against Vic Country last year, the coaching team has well and truly turned its attention towards the challenge of playing the SAAFL in Adelaide and ensuring we are able to attract quality players with a team-first approach,” he said.

“We are hopeful our squad can build on the success of last year’s performance and develop a core group of players who have a genuine care and passion for representative football.”

The Big V’s performance against their Country rivals was an outstanding return to form after going down to the SAAFL by 17 points the previous year. Powell is well-versed in the strength of the South Australians after they fielded 12 players with SANFL senior level experience.

“We certainly won’t be underestimating the opposition and look forward to representing the VAFA with great pride,” he said.

Powell will enter the campaign with the same elite coaching panel as last year; including, Dave Murray, Andrew Leoncelli, Stephen Powell and Barry Stoneham.

The Big V will face the SAAFL at Aldi Arena on 9 June alongside the interstate debut of the VAFA Women’s representative side.
