Kew AFC v Melbourne University (5.5 35 – 5.5 35)

Kew and Melbourne Uni fought it out in a thrilling encounter at Victoria Park, with neither side able to gain the ascendancy and the match resulting in a draw. In an extremely tight battle, Melbourne Uni led the way at the main break narrowly by a 6-point margin. With not much in it, the three-quarter time score was 22-22, with both teams in the final term kicking 2.1, both finishing up on 35 a piece. In what was perhaps the most exciting, nail-biting match of the season thus far, Tara Donnan starred for the bears kicking 3.2 and amassing 17 disposals and looked dangerous up forward for the Bears for the entirety of the day. Ash Bruce competed fiercely with 16 touches and 7 tackles, as did Danielle Calautti with 16 touches and 8 tackles and Joelle Metres with 16 touches – Kew again showcasing a vast number of ball winners. The MUGAR’s Ruby Grounds was instrumental yet again, with 22 touches, 7 tackles and 5 marks and unveiled a sensational all-round game, while Candice Adams was flawless in the ruck, accumulating 64 hitouts, 9 tackles and 18 touches in a colossal display.

Caulfield Grammarians v Marcellin OC (3.4 22 – 10.10 70)

Coming off the back of their first victory, Caulfield Grammarians were unable to match that winning form against the relentless Marcellin as the reigning premiers maintained their unbeaten run with a 48-point victory at Glenhuntly Oval. The first quarter was a tight battle with not much in it, however in the following two quarters Marcellin showcased skillful football, with several players consistently winning the contested ball, clearances, and taking numerous marks. Caulfield impressed in the last quarter kicking a couple of late goals to finish off the game strongly. Marcellin’s pocket rocket Tessa Zagontinos was best afield, bagging 2 goals, 20 touches, and used her pace and football smarts around nearly every contest. Nat Gills kicked 3 goals, Laura Robertson was again a major ball winner, attaining 30 touches, and Taylor Padfield continued her ruck dominance with 49 hitouts. Caulfield’s Millie Klingbeil kicked 2 goals and racked up 16 touches and was best afield for her side, with other notable efforts coming from Georgia Cooper with her dash and strong marking on show, and Steph Athanasopoulos’ eagerness and hunger to win the contested ball.

SKOB v Fitzroy-ACU (10.12 72 – 3.2 20)

SKOB and Fitzroy-ACU met in a much-anticipated 6th round clash at Basil St Reserve, with SKOB running out 52-point winners one week after a convincing loss to Caulfield. The improved SKOB unit were impressive for three of the four quarters with Fitzroy-ACU only able to match them on the scoreboard in the final term. SKOB’s Sarah Cameron starred with 4 majors, 18 disposals and 11 marks, asserting herself again this season as one of the best forwards in the competition. Georgia Cropley continued her consistent season with 2 goals and 19 touches and Margaret Gleeson also had a solid game with 18 touches and a goal. Fitzroy-ACU’s Lucy Kerr was superb with 25 touches and was one of the best in her side’s defeat, alongside the underrated Ruby McDermott with 3 goals, and one of the competition’s most consistent ball winners Erin Gogerly with 20 touches.

Old Xaverians v Old Trinity (1.4 10 – 9.2 56)

Toorak Park played host to two teams both coming off the back of losses in Old Xavs and Old Trinity in the first twilight game of the season. Old Trinity were dominant across four quarters and never lost control. Old Xavs only managed one goal for the match with fantastic defensive pressure one of the deciding factors in Old Trinity’s success. Imogen Barnett continued to impress in the ruck, amassing 49 hitouts, 17 touches and 9 marks, and additionally posed as a strong target up forward with 2 goals in a best on ground display. Vanessa Murphy continued her consistent solid read of the play and took 5 marks, alongside strong performances from Amanda Fogarty and Jodie-Lee Pirak-Murphy both with 2 goals each. Old Xaverians’ Maddie Sorrenti and Cassandra Pittard were amongst the best for their losing side racking up 16 and 19 touches respectively.
