Sportscover Arena played host to three sensational Wilson Women’s Grand Finals today, with the combined winning margin just 10 points from all three matches. Marcellin Sheagles backed up their Lightning Premiership from earlier this season with the William Buck Premier flag alongside St Mary’s Salesian (Development Division 1) and Mazenod (Development Division 2).

Marcellin have capped off a sensational debut season as William Buck Premier champions after they defeated SKOB Saints by seven points at Sportscover Arena. The Sheagles were unrelenting in the first term and kicked two unanswered goals to take a 15-point lead into the first break, before holding off the minor premiers as they gradually kicked closer in the dying stages. Tessa Zagontinos starred late in the game when it was there to be won, kicking two goals alongside a best-on-ground performance from Laura Robertson. Alexandra Rock saved her best of the year for the grand final for the Sheagles, while Brianne Keogh was dominant across the four quarters. Anytime Fitness Rising Star Sarah Cameron fought valiantly up forward all day despite being constantly peppered by Sheagles’ defenders, while Georgie Lupson and Scarlett Dunell impressed. SKOB were outstanding throughout the season and went undefeated throughout the Premier home and away fixture.

St Mary’s Salesian held on in the dying stages and recorded a thrilling one-point Development Division 1 Grand Final victory against West Brunswick. With scores levelled 13-apiece at three quarter time, the Saints kicked clear before the Westies peppered their forwards with a multitude of inside 50’s late in the game. Led by a best-on-ground performance from running defender Tash Rappos, the Saints repelled the Westies’ forward thrusts valiantly until the final siren sounded.  Lisa Davie and Rebecca Grant starred for the Saints alongside Rappos, while Rachel Gill stood tall late in the game with several important marks from opposition kicks. Evelyn Burry and Jenifer Bell shone for the Westies who should hold their head high after finishing the home and away season as minor premiers.

Earlier in the day, Mazenod claimed the Development Division 3 premiership with a stunning two-point victory over Old Mentonians. Co-captain Jennifer Vissenjoux was named best afield after she starred for the Nodders and continually provided a contest and kept the ball moving forward at every opportunity. Kimberley Watson and Olivia Goder were outstanding for the premiers, while Old Mentonians can celebrate an unbelievably successful season where they climbed from third spot at the conclusion of the home and away season to come within two points of a premiership after a sensational preliminary final victory over Ajax.
