UHS-VU come back in thriller against Bloods in Division 3 action

UHS-VU came from four points down at the last break and defeated Aquinas by four points at Aquinas College today. Nick Devereux, Esubalew Ramsay, John Clark and Nikolai Amourgis combined for eight of VU’s 12 goals, while Jack Price kicked three for the Bloods. VU are on four wins with both Canterbury and South Melbourne, while the Bloods are ninth with just two wins for the year.

La Trobe University solidified third position on the Division 3 ladder with a 49-point win against Albert Park at home. Trailing by six points at the end of the first, La Trobe kicked 12 of the next 17 with Mitch Gleeson continuing his strong form with three majors. Matt Ogle was named best afield, while Jack Salau also had a day out.

South Melbourne Districts produced a strong display of Division 3 football in their 24-point win against Power House at Lindsay Hassett Oval. Six goals in the first term set up the win, with Steve Clarke booting four goals. The Swans sit sixth, while Power House are eighth.

Glen Eira’s dominant form continued in Round 7 as they demolished Elsternwick by 117 points at Packer Reserve. A five-goal first term was their lowest of the match as the Saints piled on six majors in each of the ensuing quarters. Julius Waras Carstensen was dominant in front of goal with five majors for the Saints and Lachlan Pound snagged four. Justin Hunter just produces for the Wicks with three, while Sam Collins was their best.

Hawthorn refuses to allow anyone near them at the top of the Division 3 ladder after they defeated Canterbury by 68 points at Rathmines Reserve. Ross McDermott was the main recipient in front of goal with three goals for the Hawks, while Steven Wintle was dominant as best on ground. Scott Fitzgerald battled manfully for the Cobras in their third consecutive loss.

Parkside showcased their strongest performance this season but went down to Swinburne University by 18 points at St James Park. Leading by 11 points at quarter time, the Red Devils could not contain the Razorbacks in the second and allowed 10 goals to two. Tom Kennedy starred with five majors and David Thwaites was named best on the back of his Max Gawn-inspired ruck display.
