VAFA CLAIM FIRST KIWI SCALP

Posted on - Latest News

The VAFA U18 side commenced its tour of New Zealand in the best fashion winning comfortably over the AFL NZ U18 side on Saturday by 81 points.
The game started in sunshine but being the windy city of Wellington the conditions deteriorated over the course of the contest to see the closing stages being completed in driving wind and rain.
The contest was played in a great spirit with players from both sides going hard at the ball and tackling ferociously.
This marks the first year that the Kiwis are playing as an under 18 team after previous years playing an under 20 side against the VAFA’s under 18s.
Old Scotch’s Ed Walmsley led the VAFA’s goal kickers with three goals and a host of players bagged a couple of goals each.
Peninsula’s Jordan Pomeroy was named the VAFA’s best player on the day and he also managed a couple of goals.
The VAFA side shared the ball around with many players getting double figure possession counts.
The second and final game will be on Monday before the boys fly back to Melbourne after the game.
