Another win for Old Mentonians improves their record to 3-0, defeating Ormond by a large 43-point margin away from home. The Panthers were able to gather an early three-goal lead on the Monders from the first break, and eventually go on to score a total of 18 goals in impressive fashion. Nine Panthers players got on the board, with Max Rothberg leading the scorers with five of his own closely followed by Lachlan Boyd’s four. Ormond’s Lachlan McCambley led from the front for the home side, whilst teammate Sam Mason tallied four goals. As Old Mentonians eye top spot they should be thrilled about their undefeated season thus far as they take on a traveling Ajax side in a fourth-round clash. An optimistic Ormond squad will take a trip to Central Reserve facing a Mazenod side aiming to make it two wins in a row after a gruelling victory.

In a contest of our two former Premier B sides from 2018, it went right down to the last siren as Mazenod prevailed in a one-point win over Ajax, securing their first victory for 2019. Trailing up until the half by 17 points, Mazenod scored five goals to Ajax’s none in the third to flip the match on its end. The Nodders barely held off to achieve the win, as the Jackas will surely rue their scoreboard inaccuracy as they concluded with 22 behinds for the game. For the victors, Chris Campbell and David Regan snagged three goals each whilst Joshua Muling was named best on. Ajax captain, Nick Lewis, gave a valiant effort while Evgeni Routman and Brandon Joel scored three majors each. An uplifted Mazenod side will return home for the fourth round when they face Ormond, a fierce outfit coming off a difficult loss. Ajax will travel taking on the undefeated Old Mentonians who are in threatening form.

Marcellin have bounced back with a cosy 53-point win over Hampton Rovers at their Boss James Reserve fortress. The Eagles took a commanding first-quarter lead after booting five, though the Rovers narrowed the margin to 15 points at the half. Marcellin was able to find the goals at will from this point, kicking 12.3 points for the remainder of the contest. A dominant seven-goal display from Daniel McMahon now takes him atop the Premier C goalkicking ladder with 14 for the season to date, while Steven Fitzgerald slotted four and Adam Tomaro had a stunning best on ground performance. Hampton’s best were Ryan Fogarty and Sean Ebbott. A journey to Chelsworth Park it is for a composed Marcellin when they face an Old Ivanhoe team fresh off their first win. Hampton Rovers are still chasing their first in a clash against Old Camberwell Grammarians that will take their best effort.

95 points was the largest win margin of Round 3 after Old Ivanhoe delivering PEGS their third consecutive loss. This, the Hoers first win for 2019, took a shaky start as PEGS took a three-point lead at the first term, but the visitors didn’t hold back thereon in; asserting their dominance with 18.3 for the rest of the showdown. PEGS couldn’t contain Hamish Shepheard as he kicked nine goals and Luke Velluto was named Best. For PEGS, Brett Hannah was a standout and Adrian Romanyk booted three in the loss. A delighted Old Ivanhoe will be expecting a strong Marcellin group in the fourth round as both sides look to get a stronger grip on the competition. PEGS will attempt to achieve an incredible upset as they search for their first win against first placed Williamstown CYMS.

In what was pitted to be a tight affair, it was all Williamstown CYMS when they rode away with an 83-point win against Old Camberwell at Gordon Barnard Reserve. A close contest up until the half with only three goals in the CY’s favour, Williamstown exhibited a goalkicking onslaught scoring 12 more goals and restricting Old Camberwell to just one major. Lachlan Fairley led with four goals whilst Dean Cutajar, Jack Gray and Ben Deller all hit three. 2018 Zachariah Medallist, Yuma Hemphill, was outstanding for the CY’s being named the best. James Allen from the Wellers was their most influential. Top of the ladder Williamstown CYMS won’t want to disrupt their fine form as PEGS fly over for an intriguing 1st v 8th clash. As PEGS emerge as heavy underdogs without a register in the win column there’s a lot to gain in this contest.
