South Mornington footballer with Sotos syndrome kicks first goal

A HEARTWARMING moment in the VAFA on Saturday when popular South Mornington player John Beswick, who has Sotos syndrome, kicked his first goal for the club.

Beswick was mobbed by ecstatic teammates after slotting the goal from 40m in the Tigers’ reserves win against Box Hill North at Fererro Reserve, Mt Martha.

“John is a massive sports lover,’’ South Mornington coach Bobby Wilson said.

“He doesn’t get much of the ball but has a crack every week, never misses training and we have been trying to get him a goal for the last few years.

“On Saturday he managed to take a mark and find himself on his own about 40 out. He played on and kicked the goal, with nobody’s help. It was a brilliant moment and everyone got around him.’’
