The Victorian Amateur Football Association extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of VAFA Life Member and former President, Manson Russel, who recently passed away.

Manson’s contribution to the Association knew no bounds, serving 17 years on the executive committee, including presidency from 1978-80, and he was a patron of the Association for the past 36 years.

Manson was elected to life membership in 1978 after seven years as VAFA Chairman. He handled executive matters in much the same way he played football in his long, illustrious career for Old Scotch – unflappable, tireless and with a touch of craftiness.

During his playing career at Old Scotch, he amassed 251 games and kicked more than 700 goals as a rover. He won the 1950 Woodrow Medal, captain-coached his club, represented Victoria 11 times and earned All Australian amateur selection.

May he rest in peace.
