The Victorian Amateur Football Association extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of VAFA Field Umpire, Ryan Robertson, who passed away last Saturday.

Ryan commenced his umpiring career at the VAFA in 2006. He built a fantastic legacy for more than a decade as an umpire who was well-regarded by players and clubs due to his professional approach and attitude to his craft.

His consistent performances over a long time were rewarded in 2015 when he was appointed to the VFL list on the Development Field Umpires Panel. Despite the incredible amount of competition for selection each week in the field umpiring group, Ryan excelled over the next two years, officiating four VFL Development League games, five VFL Women’s games and a further 10 in the NAB League.

After completing his VFL career, Ryan returned to the VAFA – a competition and Association he loved dearly.

Ryan will be remembered by his fellow umpires and colleagues as a great mate, mentor and someone who could always be relied on for advice. He was incredibly intelligent and talented and would always be there for his family and friends.

He will be sorely missed by many people in the VAFA and umpiring community.
