Congratulations to Old Scotch young gun, Lachlan Byrne-Jones, who has been named the Round 13 Grill’d Rising Star nominee.
“Lachlan ‘Chenie’ Byrne-Jones first played with the OSFC this year coming from the school first XVIII and the Oakleigh Chargers, where he was a member of the 2015 TAC Cup Premiership. He made his senior debut in Rd 1 v Ajax.
His strengths are his pace, ability to win one-on-one contests and his aggression at the football. When in the forward half he plays a little like Paul Puopolo from Hawthorn, applying significant defensive pressure and creating many goal scoring opportunities. When in defence, his daring run and line-breaking ability is similar to that of Shaun Atley from North Melbourne.
To have a young player with such versatility is a huge asset. He is renowned for really buying into the direction of the club and bringing great intensity to everything he does.
Lachlan is known by most as ‘Chenie’, a nickname his family gave him as a youngster. The most recent ‘Spirit of the Big V’ recipient, after his performance for the Under 19 VAFA team, he has now been receiving other nicknames, which have included ‘Spirit Fingers’, ‘Spirit of Tasmania’ and ‘Spirit Level’.”
