HOWAT TO LEAD SENIOR BIG V FOR SECOND TIME

Old Carey’s Cam Howat will lead the senior Big V as captain for the second time for the match against AFL Queensland in Brisbane on Sunday. Big V regulars Matt Handley (Old Xaverians) and Lach McQueen-Miscamble (Old Carey) have been named Vice Captains of the side.
The squad went through their final preparations at Collingwood’s Westpac Centre on last night, with senior coach Simon Lethlean telling the group the leaders prior to the start of the session.
It is the first time that Lethlean has named a player to lead the side for for the second time, bucking the recent trend of him sharing the captaincy around.
“I just reckon Cam Howat has been a real standout and we need a big leader for this game against Queensland, a side we haven’t played before.”
“It is great to see him back in the side after the injury he suffered last year against the country,” said Lethlean.
The final squad contains players from both Premier and Premier B with 9 clubs represented in total. There are 12 players in the 22 that took on the EFL in the pre-season AFL Victoria Metro Championships. David Lepair will be representing the VAFA as the field umpire.
Three players will make their debut including Uni Blacks recruit, Tyson Kruse, who, had he still been based in Queensland could have been playing for the QAFL side. Kruse though was relishing the chance to take on his mates on Sunday.
