VAFA seeks Umpire Operations Manager

The Victorian Amateur Football Association, Australia’s largest senior community football competition, seeks a dedicated person for the role of Umpire Operations Manager.

The successful candidate will have a keen attention to detail, as well as the vision, communication and management skills to assist in the recruitment and retention of VAFA umpires. The role will include managing over 420 umpires, a first-class coaching panel and match day observers.

Reporting to the General Manager of Football Operations, tasks will include but not limited to:

  • Develop and implement innovative strategies to recruit new umpires including development and implementation of strategies for the retention of umpires that includes an ongoing component of the VAFA strategic plan
  • Manage the structure of the umpiring department including the daily administration requirements
  • Manage the Umpire Coaches of the specific disciplines, field/boundary/goal/fitness & development including performance appraisals
  • Prepare and submit reports to the Board and General Manager of Football Operations as required
  • Develop strong lines of communication with VAFA clubs, the VAFAUA and other key stakeholders including other football competitions, coaches, umpires, volunteers and sponsors
  • Manage an umpiring budget including managing payment of umpires via the Schedula system
  • Uphold the core values of the VAFA which includes the amateur status of playing for the love of the game and the VAFA’s no alcohol policy
  • Conduct club umpire information sessions and liaise with VAFA clubs on umpiring matters throughout the season

Experience and skills required;

  • Sports Administration experience
  • Sound Knowledge of the football industry
  • High verbal and written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
