Unicorns enter Division 2 top four, Preston win battle of the Bullants

Emmaus St Leo’s and Melbourne High School Old Boys played out a classic at Bennettswood Sports Ground, with the Unicorns running out five-point victors. It was a high-scoring affair with 18 goals kicked each, as both sides recorded five multiple goal kickers; including, four from the Animals’ Christopher Beluszar and three each to Unicorns Dylan Hamilton-Ho and Kane Smith. Rex Gavan was named best afield for his standout performance. MHSOB move into the four, while finals are looking more difficult each week for the Animals as they sit on three wins.

West Brunswick returned to the winners’ column with a comfortable 56-point victory over Eltham Collegians at Ransford Oval. Luke Buckler (four) and Bill Irving (three) led the way on the scoreboard for the Westies, while Joel Beer was recognised as BOG. Ben Gill registered another three goals for the Turtles as he takes his season tally to 39.

Preston flexed their muscle in the battle of the Bullants when they defeated Bulleen Templestowe by 63 points at Ted Ajani Reserve. Liam Carter was the star of the show for Preston, booting six goals in a best-on-ground performance. Damon Marcon chipped in with four majors, while Oran Aziz sent home three for Bulleen.

St John’s held off a fast-finishing Yarra Valley and kept their unbeaten record in tact with a four-point victory at Thomas Carroll Reserve. Trailing by 24 points at the final break, the Bushrangers came hard as they piled on five goals to two and give the JOCs a real scare. Guy Chuol was best for the JOCS, while Ross Little and Jack Hall kicked three each for the Bushrangers.
