For all the highs and lows of a football season, the year of 2022 in the VAFA will go down as a memorable one indeed.

After 2 years of cancellations, abandonments and interruptions the season went ahead as planned running right through until the AFL’s Grand Final public holiday on Friday, September 23.

Joe Pignataro and Josh Heriot have taken a look back on the season that was 2022 in the latest edition of the For the Love of the Game podcast.

St Kevin’s crowned Premiers in both William Buck Premier Men’s and William Buck Premier Women’s. A first in VAFA history to have two sides champions in the top sections of competition. Old Haileybury and University Blacks fought out a Grand Final that will be remembered for the wrong reasons, while Ivanhoe AFC prevailed against West Brunswick in an all-time thriller.

Four sides in the VAFA Women’s Competition capped off literally the perfect seasons – St Bede’s Mentone Tigers (Premier C), Beaumaris (Division 1), Hampton Rovers (Division 2), MCC (Division 3) all going through the year undefeated culminating in Premiership pennants headed to the respective clubs trophy cabinets.

Individual highlights, team moments, and the light-hearted side of the game are all part of this season in review.
