A final quarter comeback by Old Geelong was not enough to prevent Fitzroy from triumphing, with the visitors victorious by four points at Como Park. Old Geelong had minimal control in the first half when they led at both breaks by six and four points respectively, before Fitzroy FC turned the game and kicked three goals to zero in the third term. Old Geelong attempted a comeback in the final quarter by kicking three goals to one, but it failed to push them over the line. Fitzroy’s Sam Baker backed up his six goal haul from last week with another three majors, while Tom Biscaro and Rory Angiolella stood out for the victors. Matt Bird led his side on the scoreboard, sinking three goals for Old Geelong, as midfielder Will Sloss walked off as the OGs best. Fitzroy FC stay steady in second place after the win before they travel to play the Eagles, whom the Roys easily accounted for in Round 6. For Old Geelong, the loss is their second in a row as they slip from third to fourth. They face PEGS next, but will be buoyed by a Round 7 win against the club where defender Matt Kirkwood accounted for in-form forward Adrian Romanyk.

In another close contest, Williamstown CYMS fought off Old Ivanhoe’s combative first half to win by six points at Fearon Park. The Hoers led by two goals at quarter time, before narrowly taking a lead of six points into the second half. It was here that Williamstown fought back, steering the lead their way by three quarter time which they held in the final term, with the Hoers squandering their chances as they kicked 2.4. CY’s Jack Gray (3) and Jack Noonan (3) were their sides most prolific goal kickers, while Kallan Dawson was judged BOG. Old Ivanhoe’s Luke Scuderi top scored for his team, kicking three majors, as Brandon Lee continued his consistent presence down forward with two. Apart from their single loss to the Roys, the victory marks the tightest winning margin for CY. The top team will be hoping to get back to their best as they play the Pirates in Round 12, whom they beat by an unassailable 136 points in Round 8. The Hoers remain in seventh but will be playing for their fifth win when they face the Saints.

Peninsula finally broke through to seize their second win of the season, beating Old Mentonians by 16 points at Keysborough Playing Fields. It was the Pirates first win since their last win over PEGS in Round 3, and while Old Mentonians held the slimmest of leads at both the first and main breaks, the Pirates responded by pinching a three-point buffer leading into the final term. It was there that the visitors held their nerve and extended the lead by a further two goals to win. George Fletcher was named best afield for the Pirates, while it was an even effort down forward with four players kicking two goals each, including Will Harbinson and skipper Sam Glenn. Down the other end, Lachlan Boyd booted three goals for the Panthers, while Darcy Brown was again influential for his side as the Panthers best for a third time this season. Heading into Round 12, the Panthers play the in-form Old Camberwell, where they should be buoyed by their 20-point victory last time they met. Peninsula remain in ninth but have now separated themselves from the final rung. They face Williamstown CYMS next.

Old Camberwell have made it five in a row with a 38-point victory over Marcellin OC as they skyrocket into finals contention. It was a dominant second half from the Wellers that won the match, with the visitors kicking seven goals to three to secure the winning lead. Joe Arnold was at his best for the Wellers, while skipper Simon Bennet kicked his first goal of the season. Five players led the goal kicking for the Wellers, with two majors being the highest. Marcellin’s Adam Tomaro (3) stood out in his first senior game, while Andrew Kay (2) was influential for the Eagles. Tomaro played his first game for the season for the U19s the week before earning selection in the senior side. The Wellers shoot from fifth up to third with their seventh win of the season and can solidify their position with a win over the Panthers in Round 12. While Old Camberwell lost to the Panthers in Round 2, the Wellers have found plenty of form in their last five games after a slow start to the season. For the Eagles, this loss marks their first in five games as they fall from fourth to fifth; a win outside the final four. They face another tough challenge this week as they play the second placed Fitzroy FC.

After losing three of their last four games, PEGS Football Club has steadied the ship with a 46-point win over St Mary’s Salesian at Ferndale Park. It was the Bombers superior second quarter, in which the visitors scored six goals to one, that broke open the game and set up a lead too tough for the Saints to pull back. Adrian Romanyk was back to his more influential self for the Bombers, kicking five goals to crack the 50 goal milestone. Tom Saggio also kicked three goals in his second senior game after being elevated from the reserves, while Jack Condon was named best afield. Forward Louis Holmes (4) led the charge for the Saints, while Ben Andrews was the Saints best and has strung impressive performances together over the last three games. The Saints, enduring in tenth, play Old Ivanhoe next. Sixth placed Bombers, a win outside the top four, will try to vindicate their Round 7 loss to Old Geelong this week.
