Old Trinity will get a chance at redemption in this year’s William Buck Premier Grand Final after they booked their spot in the big dance with a comprehensive 61-point victory against University Blues at Sportscover Arena.
After an even first term with just one point separating the two sides, the T’s piled on nine goals to one in the second as Brendan Iezzi, Ben Howell and Andrew Kyriacopoulos gave constant delivery to the T’s power-packed forward line.
Iezzi was particularly outstanding as he won clearances, tackled ferociously and pumped the ball inside 50.
Luther Juric was electric as he sent through three goals in the second-term blitz, while Seb Nicolosi and Alex Polidoros added to their totals. Ed Weatherson continued his stellar season as top-scorer with four goals for the T’s, while Tim Gaeppen and Cam Williams registered two each for the Blues.
Marc James found plenty of the sherrin as he claimed ownership over the far wing, while Dan Batarilo and Clayton Hinkley fought hard for the Blues. They will now face the winner of Old Xaverians and University Blacks in next week’s preliminary final, while the T’s rest up ahead of their second consecutive shot at their first William Buck Premier cup.
