The VAFA is excited to announce Dean Matthews has been appointed to the VAFA Board.

Dean, who played 19 seasons with Bulleen Templestowe between 1991 and 2009, possesses an incredible Amateur record riddled with both team and individual accolades. After initially being introduced to the Bullants by his father, John, Dean featured in the 2004 and 2008 senior premierships, captained the club for seven seasons, and kicked a club record 670 goals. He was inducted as a Life Member in 2000 and is a member of the Team of the Century. He finished his career with 309 games and was inducted into the VAFA’s 300-game club.

He represented the Big V 12 times throughout his career – including four as captain – and went on to coach in 2012. He was recruited straight out of Bulleen Templestowe (B Grade) by St Kilda with pick 43 in the 1994 AFL draft.

Off the field, Dean has contributed significantly to the Bullants with more than 15 years of service on the club’s committee.

Professionally, he has vast senior sponsorship and marketing experience and a deep understanding of sports administration at a national level.

Dean has been married to Pip for 18 years and they have two children, Jake and Caitlin, both of whom attend Carey Grammar.
