On Saturday North Old Boys St Patrick’s College AFC played their 1000th game in the VAFA at Toorak Park against Prahran Assumption. Fittingly it was a win, taking NOBSPC’s record to 558 wins, 13 draws and 429 losses since the start of the 1963 season, when they ran out against AMP Society in E Grade. Strangely enough that was the only time they ever played that opposition.
NOBSPC has spent 26 seasons of 53 seasons in A Grade, but none since 1995. They were the first club to rise from E to A Grade in consecutive seasons (between 1964 and 1968). Not surprisingly, the clubs they have met the most are other A Grade perennials of the 1970s to 1990s, with Ormond (a current foe in Division One) clearly on top at 70 clashes, while they have played De La Salle on 59 occasions and Old Paradians and Uni Blues 46 times. Their greatest rivals have been De La, Parade and St Bernard’s.
NOBSPC has produced a number of VAFA greats, including Big V Legend Paul Considine and Big V Champions Shane Maguire and Bruno Conti.
