Ben Robertson, who in recent seasons has coached the VAFA U21 and U19 teams, will assume the role of Big V U23 coach in season 2012.
Robertson, a former Mazenod coach who played AFL football with Carlton, will replace Mick Dwyer in the role. This year, the Big V U23s were Champions of Australia, winning the AAFC Carnival in Adelaide.
“I am looking forward to the role,” Robertson said. “In recent years, the U23 team has been successful and just as importantly, groomed many of the VAFA’s star players for bigger roles at their clubs and with the Big V senior team.
“We will have several players from last year’s squad still eligible and having coached many of the younger guns before, I know we have an abundance of talent capable of stepping up to replace those who have moved on,” said Robertson.
Away from football, Robertson holds down the role of high Performance Player Development Manager with Cricket Victoria. He is currently Team Manager with the Stars in the Big Bash and was seen this morning tending to Shane Warne’s hand injury.
The U23 team will meet Western Australia on Sunday 3 June at Sportscover Arena. The next AAFC Carnival will be played in 2014.
