The VAFA is thrilled to announce the successful launch of its new Umpire Academy Program at Ivanhoe Grammar School. This initiative aims to equip students with all the essential skills and knowledge needed to become a VAFA umpire.

Under the guidance of experienced coaches, students at Ivanhoe Grammar have attended comprehensive training sessions covering various aspects of umpiring, including rules interpretation, decision-making, and on-field management. The program provides a unique opportunity for students to develop leadership, communication, and teamwork skills while fostering a deeper understanding of the rules.

“We are very proud to work with Ivanhoe Grammar and kickstart this new umpire recruitment program,” says Stephen Privitera, VAFA Umpire Operations Manager. “The enthusiasm shown by the students has been outstanding, and we are confident that this initiative will contribute significantly to the development of future umpiring talent in the VAFA.”

The VAFA is committed to investing in school-based academies as part of its ongoing efforts to recruit new umpiring talent. By engaging with schools like Ivanhoe Grammar, the VAFA aims to provide accessible pathways for students to pursue umpiring as a rewarding and fulfilling extracurricular activity.

In addition to the program at Ivanhoe Grammar, the VAFA is excited to announce the introduction of a new umpire academy in Term 2 at Xavier College.

If any other schools are interested in participating in the VAFA’s umpire academy program, they are encouraged to reach out to Stephen Privitera ([email protected]).
