BIG V DIRECTOR

By VAFA · November 11, 2011
BIG V DIRECTOR

Nigel Credlin has been appointed as the VAFA’s new Director of Representative Football, replacing Michael Hazell, who will concentrate on other Board responsibilities.
“We are delighted to have someone as committed and football savvy take up the reins,” said VAFA President Bruno Conti.
“Under Michael Hazell and the rep coaching team, we have seen a resurgence in interest and in results. We are confident that Nigel’s team will take us to new heights.
Nigel Credlin is an investment adviser with Evans and Partners and has impeccable football credentials. He wore the Big V on seven occasions in an injury-curtailed six season career with Old Camberwell. He came to the Wellers after stints at Fitzroy, Hawthorn and Port Melbourne. He is still involved at Gordon Barnard Oval with the juniors and with rehabilitation issues and is a life member of that club. This year, he was an assistant and selector for the VAFA’s Premier C – Division 4 team.
Among Credlin’s first responsibilities will be to recommend applicants for the VAFA senior and U23 coaches to replace Dean Anderson and Mick Dwyer.
“It’s a big challenge and I’m rapt to be involved again with the Big V. I always loved playing Rep football and believe it brings so many benefits to our competition and to the players who wear the famous jumper,” Credlin said.
“2012 will throw up some big challenges. First up, we will play a pre-season game against the EFL, which is still stinging from going down to us in 2009. Then AFL Sydney is determined to get some hometown payback for the drubbing we gave them here in 2010. In addition, we want to reclaim the U19 mantle from the VCFL and to reassert ourselves in the U23s. We are also looking for a suitable matchup for the Premier C-Division 4 team too.
“I am very honoured to have been asked to take this role and I am excited about the Representative program,” Credlin said.
