The final 22 of the VAFA U23 representative team has been named and presented with their jumpers at a dinner at VAFA headquarters last night. Collegians midfielder Jack Bull will lead the side with Brendan Goss (Old Xaverians) and Jaryd Robertson (St Bedes/Mentone Tigers) the vice captains in a star studded line up.
The players were joined by VAFA President Michael Hazell and Board Members George Voyage, Tim Nelson, Nigel Credlin for dinner as they were all presented with their jumpers by former VAFA representative player and current St Kilda footballer Sam Dunell.
Old Carey’s Jordan Ceppi is the unlucky number 23 and just misses out on the trip to Adelaide. Fitzroy’s Daniel Bisetto had pulled out of the 24 earlier due to injury.
In total 15 clubs are represented in the 22, with players drawn from the three Premier sections of the VAFA.
In a promising sign for next year’s carnival only five players are playing for the last time as an eligible U23 player.
Coach Andrew Hayes spoke at the dinner and reminded the players that opportunity to play at this level could lead to bigger and better things, “We are going over there to win, if we do that there are more possibilities for you all to take your football further just as Sam (Dunell) has done” said Hayes.
The VAFA is also pleased to confirm that our representative umpire is David Lepair. It will be David’s first representative game and he is looking forward to officiating in South Australia.
You can listen to Andrew Hayes’ assessment of the squad when he spoke to SEN’s Bush and the Burbs program after the dinner below.
You will also be able to watch the match live through www.vafatv.com on Saturday afternoon at 2.30pm (Melbourne Time).
