Premier C Seniors: Williamstown CYMS (11.13-79) def. AJAX (9.6-60)
Rolling off their Reserves 45-point win over Old Ivanhoe earlier in the afternoon, Williamstown CYMS will trek back to Fearon Reserve with a total of four 2019 premierships in tow following their inspired 19-point Premier C Senior’s win over a gallant AJAX at Trevor Barker Oval.
Favouritism was in the CY’s favour heading into this Grand Final clash given their unbeaten season, but it was the Jackas who were quicker out the blocks – dobbing the first two majors of the day. In what eventuated as the highest scoring quarter for the afternoon, with 10 of the match’s 20 goals kicked, Williamstown settled and bagged seven of which through two to Mitch Parkinson, while Jack Gray, Robert Chan, Jack Noonan, Jacob Wheelan and Lachlan Farley each chimed in with one.
With a 24-point buffer at the first change of ends, the CY’s stabilised in the second term with three goals to the Jackas one to walk into the rooms at the half with a 35-point ascendancy. In what was a complete change in momentum in the third quarter, Ajax threw everything at the minor premiers which saw them dominate possession and score the only three goals of the term through Jordan Cohen, Daniel Janover-Rocha and a brilliant soccer off the ground from outside the goal square by Rob Chan.
Trailing by 19-points at 3QT, the Jackas picked up where they left off to kick the first two goals of the term through Toby Sheezel and leading Premier C goalkicker, Jake Lew – getting within single digits (9pts) of the CY’s with 25+ minutes of Premier C football to go. Unperturbed by the closeness of the match, Williamstown’s shut-down football for the ensuing minutes was to be applauded – a game-plan spearheaded by Dylan Jones’ elite contested marking ability across half back and Ben Gray’s snap goal in the last 40 seconds of the game.
Dylan Jones was awarded the BOG medallion by the officiating umpires for his incredible efforts in what was one of the more thrilling duels of the day between himself and AJAX ruckman Brent Shapiro.
Premier C Reserves: Williamstown CYMS (12.9-81) def. Old Ivanhoe (5.6-36)
In the midday match-up between Premier C Reserves Grand Finalists Williamstown CYMS and Old Ivanhoe, it was the CY’s who lifted premiership silverware thanks to a 45-point winning margin. It was a complete four-quarter effort by the premiers, where they posted a 10-point (Q1), 29-point (Q2) and 36-point (Q3) margin at each respective change of ends. Prolific in the win, Bryson Ford was bestowed the Best on Ground medallion by the officiating umpires for his outstanding performance, while teammate Benjamin Deller tallied four of the team’s 12 majors. For the Hoers, five individuals contributed to the scoresheet.
