The last time Kye Turner graced a footy field was the infamous Premier B Grand Final at Elsternwick Park. Walking off wet, muddy, dirty but a premiership player with Old Haileybury.
The next time he takes to the field, he will be an AFL listed player with Melbourne as the Demons opted to select Turner on the final day of the pre-season supplemental selection period (SSP).
The key defender has spent the summer with the Dees, impressing Simon Goodwin and the Demon coaching staff in combat for the final list spot against Trent Burgoyne, the son of Port Adelaide premiership player Peter.
Turner stands at 193cm, in 2022, he played 14 games for Old Haileybury in Premier B and twice he lined up alongisde fellow VAFA gun, Brodie McLaughlin (now Gold Coast Sun) for Frankston in the VFL.
“Having never been exposed to the elite junior talent pathway, we have been impressed with how Kye has not only adapted to but thrived in our environment,” said Dees list manager Tim Lamb.
“He has a lot of tools in his game and real appetite to improve, which give us confidence he will develop into a really good player for us.”
Last week Turner celebrated his 21st birthday in style, this week he adds the best present one could dream of.
The VAFA congratulates Kye Turner on earning a spot on the Melbourne Demons list, and looks forward to watching him flourish in 2023.
