Warriors enter third as Razorbacks claw past Snakes

Glen Eira were made to work to maintain their unbeaten run in Division 3, defeating Aquinas by five points at Packer Reserve. The Gryphons trailed by 10 points at three quarter time but won the game with three goals to one in the final term. Chris Higgins and Julian Stone were standouts for the Gryphons, while Jarred Sund and Philip Dyck impressed for the Bloods. Aquinas sit eighth with five wins but only two games and a fair chunk of percentage outside the four.
Manningham Cobras made it three wins from their past four games as they defeated Canterbury by 43 points Canterbury Sports Ground. Manningham jumped out to a 19-point lead at the first break and continued to roll with another 11 goals to six in the remaining three quarters. Chris Jolly, Kane Maghamez, Lin-Tse Hong and Nicholas Somerville each bagged three goals for the fourth-placed Manningham, while Sam Murphy played a lone hand up forward for Canterbury with three of his own. Despite the win, Manningham have still fallen one spot into fourth after Westbourne’s huge victory.
42 scoring shots to 14 helped Hawthorn AFC to a commanding 118-point win over Albert Park yesterday. The Hawks kicked 11 unanswered goals in the first half to set the scene for the Round 12 demolition, and a further 13 to six in the second half. The Falcons fired in the third term and outscored the Hawks five goals to four. 12 players hit the scoreboard for the Hawks, but it was Steven Wintle who had a day out with six majors ahead of James Barker’s three. Cameron Allum was one of the 10 who didn’t kick a goal but was named best afield. Jordi Sahely booted three of the Falcons’ six goals and teammate Justin Mahoney was their best player for the second time in three weeks. The Hawks are three games clear in second spot on the ladder but two behind the Gryphons, while the Falcons are ninth with one win for the season so far.
Five goals to one in the final term helped Swinburne University to a thrilling 12-point win over Richmond Central at St James Park. The Snakes led by 17 points at the last break, but the razorbacks rallied for 5.6 to just 1.1. Riley Livingstone backed up his bag of five last week with another four goals for the Razorbacks, while William Wood and Matthew Greenwood led the charge as their two best players. No results had been submitted for Richmond Central at the time of publication.
Westbourne Grammarians leapfrogged Manningham into third spot on the ladder following their 130-point win over La Trobe University. 10 unanswered goals in the first term set the scene for the Warriors’ dominant day as they ended with 48 scoring shots to 13. Dale Collins was at his best with a huge haul of 10 goals for the Warriors alongside seven from Patrick O’Brien. Adam Salamone and Michael Culliver were outstanding across the ground for the winning side, while Joel McCarten and Thomas Mooney did their utmost for the Trobers. It’s been a tough year for the Trobers numbers-wise and hit its lowest point as they were unable to field a reserves side and were forced to forfeit prior to the match.
