The VAFA has been advised Monash Gryphons AFC and Glen Eira AFC will join forces and create a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening the on-field performance of both Clubs for the upcoming 2016 season.
Following a meeting between Club Executives on Wednesday evening, the Gryphons cited a lack of numbers as the reason for the partnership and decided joining forces with the Saints was the most viable option going forward.
Glen Eira Club President, Ivan Delac, told the VAFA “off field resources will be combined to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of both clubs looking to make an impact within their local community”.
Importantly, both Clubs will continue to exist and function in their current entity in the 2016 season.
General Manager of Football Operations and Umpiring, Brian Goodman, said Glen Eira has requested to continue in their current format in Division 3.
“Monash Gryphons has not yet advised the VAFA with regards to their position on the impending season,” he said.
Meetings with both Clubs will be conducted this week and a decision will be made regarding participation in 2016.
“The VAFA will endeavour to ensure minimal disruption to Divisions 2, 3 and 4 with subsequent alterations made to current fixtures,” Goodman said.
“Monash Gryphons are a well-respected Club who have participated in the VAFA since 1991 and we will work with them diligently as they go through this transitional period.”
The Gryphons last tasted premiership success when they won both the senior and reserves Division 4 premierships in 2010.
