The Glen Eira City Council and the State Government have provided Bentleigh AFC with $140 000 in a master plan to resurface the Bentleigh Recreation Reserve in warm season grasses. Sports Minister Hon. James Merlino provided on behalf of the State Government a cheque for $60 000. The Glen Eira City Council pledged $80 000 towards the ground with Glen Eira Council Mayor Steven Tang, State Member for Bentleigh – Rob Mudson MP and VAFA CEO Michael Sholly on hand for the ceremonial handing over of the cheque.
President of Bentleigh AFC Scott Kennedy said “It’s a fantastic result for the club; we are really excited about it. To be able to have a lush surface for training, and to be able to utilise these facilities will be great step for the club.” Bentleigh AFC last season were only allowed to train on their ground one hour per week due to the poor ground condition.
VAFA CEO Michael Sholly added “The VAFA has been delighted with the Glen Eira City Council and their approach to the VAFA season for 2008. Glen Eira City Council has been outstanding leaders in their approach to ensuring commencement of our season on time. The VAFA are pleased to have a strong working partnership with the Glen Eira City Council and the State Government to achieve this result”.
