De La have a pretty good record at the Harry Trott but today was a disaster. The undefeated Collegians, with key forwards Fergus Watts and Jono Dixon in devastating touch, touched up the winless visitors to the tune of 111 points. Nick Stone and Chris Blumfield were other Lions to have a major impact.
It was a similar story out at Old Ivanhoe, where Old Xavs routed the home side. Matt Handley managed the remarkable feat of nine goals from centre half forward while Justin Arnold kicked four of his own ruck roving. Looking at Collegians today, it’s hard to imagine anyone getting near them but Xavs are obviously the ones most likely.
The St Bede’s/Mentone and Old Trinity clash was similarly one-sided, with last year’s B Section premiers doing it on their ear, running out winners by 111 points. The other two A Section games provided more of a contest, with Old Brighton downing Uni Blacks by 37 points and the still undefeated Old Scotch emerging 13 points the better of Uni Blues at headquarters. Scotch were written off by most in the pre season but now sit in second spot, just two points behind the Lions.
In B Section, Marcellin demolished Old Caulfield, St Bernard’s downed Old Carey, St Kevins made in two on the trot by beating Old Camberwell and Old Essendon defeated Old Haileybury in a close one.
