But to their credit, the Cardinals kept chipping away and when they banged on three majors in five minutes to kickstart the final term, it was game on. But Collegians steadied and ran out winers by a couple of goals to become the only undefeated team in A Section, Their best were James Jorgenson, Nick Stone, Nick Ries and Andrew Scott while former Brisbane and St Kilda player Steve Lawrence played a cracking game for Scotch. It was a heated game where there were a number of stretcher cases.
It’s panic stations down at De La, after they were rolled by Old Ivanhoe by eight goals. De La brought back a host of senior players, including VFL gun Damien Rayson and really fancied their chances going into the game, but the boys in brown won in a canter, So too, did Uni Blues who made it a miserable fortnight for Old Trinity, belting them by over 80 points. The clash between Old Xavs and Uni Blacks was more of a contest, with Xavs prevailing by five goals.
And in the heart stopper, St Bede’s/Mentone won by one point over Old Brighton down at Brindisi St after being down at half time. The Tigers kicked 6 goals to 1 in the third term to set up an exciting finish to a very entertaining game.
In B Section, wins to Caulfield, Marcellin, Old Carey and Old Haileybury, with Old Essendon romping home against arch rival St Bernards in front of 2000 people at Windy Hill.
