Peter brings 16 years of experience to the job, having started out as under-16s coach at Beaumaris in 1993. When Beaumaris entered the VAFA in 1995, Peter led the inaugural under-19s side to the flag in their first season.
After coaching higher-level under-19s football, Peter accepted the appointment as Senior Coach of South Melbourne Districts in their first season in amateur football with immediate success as South claimed the D4 Section flag.
Following a period at St Kevin’s in A-Section as assistant coach to former Richmond premiership player Emmett Dunne, Peter was enticed by Beaumaris president Ron Nicholson to return and take charge of the under 16s. In the space of a season that team went from underperformers to premiers, followed by an under-17s Grand Final appearance the next season. Indeed Peter has a proven track record developing younger players, with several of his charges making their way onto AFL and VFL lists.
With Peter’s appointment at Richmond Central, Ron Nicholson will be returning that favour and joining Peter at Central land in an off-field football management role.
Steve Lake has been reappointed as Reserves Coach after a successful 2008 campaign and will be working closely with Peter and Ron as the Club strives for success at all levels.
With 2009 seeing the Club fielding an under-19s side for the first time, an exciting new yellow and black era awaits for Richmond Central.
The Club would also like to thank Danny Hickey for his sterling service as Senior Coach over the last two seasons. Danny’s passion and commitment were invaluable as the club began rebuilding after a difficult time and Richmond Central wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
