CAREY CHALICES

By VAFA · September 18, 2010
CAREY CHALICES

For three quarters, the result remained in doubt, with momentum swinging this way then that, but a strong finish from the Panthers gave them their first Premier B flag in front of a large crowd at Sportscover.
Brendan Huf won the RI Cordner Medal for best afield in a game that was studded with magnificent individual moments and some fierce body clashes.
Carey had eleven goalkickers, with Huf slotting four. Grant Baldwin was silky while Julian Rowe proved a handful.
Brett Voss booted five for Old Haileybury, and Sam Langford-Jones four in super forward efforts, while Corey Millard was magnificent in defence for the Bloods.
Haileybury skipper Tony Brown won the toss and kicked with the breeze, but Carey jumped away to an early lead. The Bloods worked back into the game and by early in the second term, the JV Deane Cup was there for the taking. It took Old Carey well into the last before it got hands on it. Eventually, they won by 38 points.
In the U19s, De La Salle wonits fourth title in five years, comfortably defeating Old Xaverians.
In Premier B Reserves, Uni Blacks beat St Bernard’s and in Premier B Reserves, St Kevin’s defeated Banyule.
The season concludes tomorrow with three games at Sportscover, the day culminating in the Premier Grand Final between Collegians and Old Xaverians.
