BARNEY BACK AT THE BOSS

By VAFA · September 29, 2010
BARNEY BACK AT THE BOSS

14 October:

Russell Barnes is back at Boss James and ready to write another chapter in his storied career. An undisputed VAFA legend, Russell played 250 games at Ormond and was captain for six seasons (1985–1989, 1991), during which time his club won four A Section premierships.
He pulled on the Big V a dozen times, including two successful AAFC carnival campaigns. He was VAFA vice-captain in 1987 & 1989.
Since retiring, he’s coached. A lot! At Old Brighton in 1991, at Ormond as an assistant coach 1995 (finals) & 1996, at Hampton Rovers as an assistant in 1997 and senior coach 1998 (premiers) to 2000 (finals), then St Bede’s/Mentone Tigers from 2001–2005 then to Beaumaris for 2006 & 2007, and back to Ormond in 2008 (premiers) and 2009.

3 October:
Old Trinity has chosen Adam Andrews as Senior Coach, succeeding Brett Chandler. Adam played senior football for Old Trinity from 1996 to 2004, including the 1996 and 1999 B Section premierships. In 1998, he won the club’s Best & Fairest award. He was vice captain of the club from 2000-2002. Adam has coached the T’s Reserves for the past three seasons and has been Senior Assistant Coach for the past two years.
Damian Truslove has been appointed senior coach of West Brunswick for 2011.  Damian’s coaching and playing experience includes stints at Assumption College, Div 1 EDFL, QAFL Div 1 and as an assistant & junior coach in the VAFA.
30 September:
Old Melburnians has chosen David Landrigan as its new senior coach.
Landrigan, a Victorian representative, a six time A Section premiership player and a fourteen season, 262 game veteran at Old Xaverians, heads to the Junction after a two year stint coaching the Xavs’ Reserves and a year at Caulfield Grammarians as an assistant. In 2007, he coached the OM’s Club XVIII team.

OM’s President-elect Stuart Rose said “The club is extremely excited about Dave’s appointment. The board recognised that if this club was to take the next step and be a serious contender in Premier football then it needed to look at the most successful amateur club in the modern era and take a leaf out of its book in the way it went about things, both on and off the field. We believe Dave will be able to instil into our young playing group the type of winning culture that has held Old Xavs in such good stead for the past 16 years”

Stay tuned for more high profile coaching appointments.
