St Bernard’s has chosen its 2010 assistant Chris Tankard as its new senior coach.
“In his first year at St Bernard’s, Chris clearly made a big impact on the playing group with his strong communication and leadership skills and he demonstrated a very clear understanding of what the playing group needs to do to take the next step,” President John Hughes said.
Prior to joining the Snow Dogs, Tankard was a revered figure in the EDFL with Doutta Stars, where he was a triple Premiership player, triple best & fairest winner and named in their ‘Team of The Century’.
He was captain-coach of that club at age twenty-three and then had a two year stint at Moonee Valley, where as playing Assistant coach he picked up another B&F before taking over their senior coaching role.
St Bernard’s has also appointed 2002 A Section premiership star Nick Smith as senior assistant coach. Smith, at teacher at the College, coached their Reserves for the past two years, making the Grand Final in 2010.
