OLD ESSENDON has been forced to make another coaching move with its recent senior appointee Daniel Lynch moving to Sydney for a short period. Former West Coast Eagle Trent Cummings fills the breach, with David Calthorpe signing on as skills coach. Lynch will rejoin the panel, probably as an assistant, on his early-season return to Melbourne.
Back-to-back premiers LATROBE UNIVERSITY has, after a long and exhaustive search, appointed Dan Winkel as senior coach. After recent onfield success, the club believes it has found the right man to take them forward. Winkel had a distiguised playing career with stints on both AFL and VFL lists. After his playing days, Dan served an extensive coaching apprentiship under many quality leaders including Leigh Tudor at the Geelong working with their VFL team. Dan was coach of Old Ivanhoe in 08/09.
ELTHAM COLLEGIANS FC has appointed Alan Sutherland as senior coach. A veteran of over 300 games in the EDFL, Alan was a decorated player. He is also a seasoned veteran with the clipboard, having spent 18 seasons in the VAFA, EDFL, MPFL and SFL as a head coach or assistant. As a coach, he has been involved in 9 grand finals, for a 6-3 win-loss ratio.

MELBOURNE HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS has appointed Paul Dodd as its senior coach. Dodd has had a wealth of experience at Premier level, at Old Scotch and most recently Marcellin.
ST MARY’S SALESIAN has reappointed Aaron Bailey as senior coach, while former Hawthorn and Richmond star Allan Martello has taken on the role of Director Of Coaching. George Azzam and Luke O’Shannessy have been appointed as senior assistant coaches. The club is still searching for a Reserves mentor.
CHADSTONE has appointed David Cafarella as its senior coach. David has over fifteen years coaching experience, most recently as reserves coach at Old Mentonians. David is looking forward to the challenge of returning Chadstone to success, with pre-season kicking off on Wednesday 1 December at Jordan Reserve, Chadstone.
AQUINAS has turned to John Le Grand to guide the Bloods forward in 2011. A former Mazenod player, Le Grand has had coaching experience at that club and also at St Kevin’s Old Boys, where he was a senior assistant and a premiership reserves coach.
OLD MENTONIANS has installed its much-decorated life member Russ Macquire as senior coach. Russ has had a long association with Panthers, playing 222 games over fifteen seasons including stints as captain and vice-captain.
Just north-east of town, FITZROY has appointed Tim Bell as senior coach and Michael Pickering as senior assistant coach.
Bell has been the Roys’ highly successful U19 coach for the last eight seasons. His tenure in that position has involved seven finals appearances including four grand finals and three premierships, the most recent being the 2010 season which saw their U19s elevated to Premier section for the first time. Tim has also been the U15 development coach at Calder Cannons TAC 2008 to 2010.
Pickering played over 150 AFL games, 136 with the Richmond FC where he won the Best & Fairest in 1988 and was vice captain in 1989. Michael was assistant Reserves Coach at Richmond 1998-1999 and spent a season as assistant coach at the Western Jets TAC squad.
Daniel Lynch has taken the reins at OLD ESSENDON.
Lynch had twelve years schooling at PEGS and today he is employed as an elite performance consultant with the Western Bulldogs. He has also worked with the Melbourne Tigers during two NBL championship campaigns.
His playing days were spent with Maribyrnong Park in the EDFL and Balwyn in the EFL.
Lynch spent 2010 at AJAX, where he worked as an assistant under Bernie Sheehy, but they’ll be in opposite dugouts come next season in Premier C.
ST FRANCIS XAVIER has appointed Chris Van Dam as senior coach for 2011. Chris also has a long association with the College and was a previous captain of the X-Men.
