Once the Cowboys drafted him ninth overall in 2011, Smith figured his days of playing at the Coliseum were finished.

But then Cowboys owner Jerry Jones helped get the Rams moved from St. Louis to Los Angeles this offseason. And now Smith returns to comfortable surroundings as the Cowboys play

Smith may not play with the Cowboys’ starters expected to not get much work, but he’ll certainly be back in familiar territory. He was born in Los Angeles and grew up about one hour east of LA in Moreno Valley.

"I never thought I’d be back there playing again," Smith said Thursday after practice. "It feels good. It’s a home feeling, good to be back home."

What makes Smith’s return to the Coliseum even more special for him is that his son, Jaxson, is now 4 and will watch his first game Saturday at the same stadium he first experienced a live NFL game. Smith expects several family members to be in

Smith is still only 25 but has made the Pro Bowl the last three seasons. Just two years ago at training camp, Smith agreed to an eight year contract extension that will keep him in Dallas through 2023. The total value of

Arizona State scored a go ahead touchdown with 6:59 left to play in a game at the Coliseum on Nov. 6, 2010. But Smith blocked the extra point attempt, and Torin Harris returned it all the way for two points in what ended as a 34 33 Trojans’ victory.

"I’ll treat it like any other game and just enjoy it afterwards," Smith said. "It’ll be a good time.".
