Umpire Steve McCarthy clocked his six hundredth game last weekend, but is this week looking forward to beginning a new streak. Game 601 will see Macca officiating at the Peninsula-Old Mentonians southern derby after celebrating his 600th at Mazenod, where he received a magnificent reception from officials, spectators and players.
Macca is now chasing 700 and while his focus, fitness and family allow, he should get there. He has promised not to let his Sunday mornings on 88.3FM with Tom Brain distract him from his target.
Well done Steve. Congrats from the entire VAFA community.
