Fortunes again fluctuated as the R14 script played out in the Premier sections, while R15 through the Divisions yielded some interesting results. It’s almost time to dust off the slide rule.
Collegians pounded OMs late, with Nick Sautner booting seven, while St Bede’s/Mentone Tigers got five from George Rowlands in a come-from-behind win over faltering Old Scotch. Xaverians showed Uni Blues no mercy, with five from Chopper Handley setting the scene. Old Trinity snuffed out the DLS flame early in a good win at Bulleen. Xavs and Blues swap places on the ladder. Old Haileybury again challenged Carey, but the Panthers came home the stronger.
In Prem B, Hampton Rovers finally won reward for effort, defeating Beauy at Shark Park. Guy Martyn kicked six in a first up run after a spell. Owen Weatherley notched five at Chelsworth, but Old Ivanhoe went down to St Kevin’s by four points. St Bernard’s stayed alive with a win over Marcellin. Pacesetter Caulfield Grammarians stormed home but fell short of Old Brighton. Oakleigh wore down an undermanned Uni Blacks and stayed in the race.
Premier C panjandrums Werribee Districts got five from Nathan Black as they despatched MHSOB, who had six from Nick Hawking. Rees Thomas picked up his second Michelle in eight days as the Nodders proved too strong for Rupo. Fitzroy stayed alive but put Ormond in further trouble, while seven from Danny de Sanctis for the Wellers was enough to have the Two Blues whack the Dons. AJAX, with five more from Jake Lew, tipped out Monash Blues.
Banyule rolled again in Div 1, this time over Will CYs. Reid Irvine high-fived in the Vultures’ victory over the Oggers. Peninsula held out a much-improved Bulleen Temp, while the Friars dropped a critical home game to NOBS/SPC. Old Mentonians won a tense relegation stoush with Paradians.
Div 2 glamour team Glen Eira lost its first, stunned by SMD in a tight battle. Sab Ciavola kicked eight as the Turtles trounced Old Westy, for whom Troy Whiting got a handful. Matt Costello bagged eight as Therry smashed SMS. The Animals whipped the Bloods despite Callum Cormack’s five for the vanquished, while Stuey Patten’ six for La Trobe wasn’t enough to tip out St John’s.
Despite six from Justin Hunter, Elsternwick cooled off, easily beaten by the peerless Prahran Assumption, with Pete Cristoforo and Isaac Edmunds kicking five apiece. Yarra Valley pulled rank on Ivanhoe, while West Brunny, with seven from Jesse Anton and five from Braden Latter, downed the Cidermen, who had five from Shane Roberts. Six from Paul Edwards saw Power House home over Kew, while Tim Madden’s six for the Gryphs saw it close, but no cigar, against UHSVU. Brendan Murnane dobbed seven and Dylan Muscat five as the Bankers beat Hawthorn.
In Division 4, Ben Spencer kicked the bag of the day, thirteen, as SFX smashed Cookies. South Mornington is surging and eight from Kyle Gascoigne saw it do the business over BHN. Ely Park Sharks beat North Brunswick, Jon Edlich nabbing six for the winners, while Pat “The Barometer” Notaro slapped nine for the vanquished out of a total of twelve. Scott McPherson slipped through five for the Cobras, not enough to get them home against the Razorbacks. It rained goals at Chaddy, but not for the home team, as the Stationmasters had nine from Christian Traeger, six from Gavin Andrew and five from Sebastian Angus.
