SATURDAY SKINNY

SATURDAY SKINNY

R18 results in the Premier sections had little impact as the final four did not change from last week’s proposed lineup. The major boilover of the afternoon was Parkdale Vultures upset win over Banyule in the Div 1 2nd semi-final at HQ. Lachlan Oakley booted seven as the birds of prey established a second term superiority and never looked back. Glen Eira got eight from Glenn Boyd and put away St Joh’s in their Div 2 2nd semi, while Dan Pabst kicked five in St Francis Xavier’s destruction of Swinburne. In Div 3, Yarra Valley beat Ivanhoe in the Qualifying Final.

Premier results were favourable for the top three, while none of the three teams chasing fourth could muster a victory. St Bede’s kept top spot after overcoming a plucky Melburnian team, which is now relegated, along with Old Haileybury, which lost to Collegians. Shura Taft snagged five for the Purples, while Corey Millard and Brett Voss did likewise for the Bloods. Old Xaverians cruised to a thumping of Old Carey, with Matt Handley snagging seven. Old Scotch tripped up DLS at Camberwell, while Old Trinity and Uni Blues drew at Bulleen, with the evergreen Andrew Ramsden slotting six.

In Premier B, Caulfield Grammarians lips to the second semi after Andrew Merrington (seven) and Brendon George (five) led St Bernard’s to another victory. Owen Weatherley kicked six as Old Ivanhoe booted ten in the final stanza to beat Beaumaris, Will Edmonds slotting five for the Sharks. Old Brighton came from behind to steal a heart-stopper over St Kevin’s. Oakleigh touched up relegated Marcellin, while Uni Blacks sent Hampton Rovers back to Premier C when it beat them convincingly.

Caine Hillier kicked five as Old Camberwell put down the Rupertswood challenge to seal fourth spot. Ormond shocked Werribee Districts but still fall a section. Melbourne High bade farewell to Premier C by beating Fitzroy, while Jake Lew’s nine goals saw AJAX towel Old Essendon. Monash Blues surprised Mazenod to assure themselves of avoiding the drop.

Semi-final action in senior and junior sections continues tomorrow.
