From formation to A-Grade: Old Geelong Women’s makes history
Old Geelong Football Club opened its 2025 season in historic fashion, with its women’s side marking their first year in the William Buck Premier competition with two wins straight out
Old Xaverians, donning pink hose on Mothers’ Day in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness, showed Old Carey a clean pair of heels after quarter time to win the Round 4 Premier contest by 18 points.
Despite some inaccurate kicking, the Red and Blacks proved too strong. Led by Cam Purss in the ruck, and with Nick Wynne and Andy Biddlecombe dominant in defence, the Sportscover specialists were too accomplished for an undermanned Panther outfit. Carey’s best were Damien Yze with six goals and the classy Ben Smithwick, whose skills were undiminished by the heavy conditions.
Xavs are 3-1, while Carey drops to 2-2.
