St Bernards OCFC are in deep mourning over the tragic loss of young Harry Overman.
Words cannot convey our collective shock and loss in losing such a fine young man.
In 2004 as a skinny eleven year old Harry ran water for our U19s, the going rate was five dollars and a hot dog.
As the sides were lining up for the first bounce little Harry strolled over to the coach’s box and with that trademark cheeky grin said “Garthy, I think you need to give me a raise” .
Harry didn’t get the raise but he won our hearts with his pluck and humour and has done so ever since.
As little Harry grew he became a star junior player, a regular WRFL representative, a multiple Premiership player, B&F winner, VAFA State Rep and of course a Senior player but throughout all that he never lost that boyhood charm and humour that endeared him to all at the club.
In 2010 Harry won the Under 19 B&F for the club and the VAFA while brother Tom made it a unique double by taking out the Senior B&F and only last year as an 18 year old Harry made his sparkling senior debut in round four against Oakleigh.
In that game Harry was thrilled to play alongside Tom and relished leading a roaring rendition of the club song to celebrate our first win of the season.
After playing seniors throughout 2011 Harry capped of the year by
playing in the Under 19 Premiership side.
At such a young age Harry has already won many accolades for his footy but many, many more as a champion bloke.
Harry provided the spark, the fun, the enjoyment in just being around him. With Harry, no matter what the situation a smile was never far from your lips.
A dearly loved son and brother, a loyal mate, a generous character we can’t replace, Harry leaves us far too soon.
Our broken hearts go out to Mick, Kerry, Tom, Sarah, Wil and the Overman family who have been such an integral part of the club since it’s founding in 1963.
Vale Harry Overman.
