LAWRENCE DEPARTS CAULFIELD

By VAFA · September 4, 2012
LAWRENCE DEPARTS CAULFIELD

After 4 seasons as Senior Coach, Steven Lawrence has announced that he will not be seeking re-appointment for season 2013.

Steven’s contribution to CGFC has been outstanding and his leadership of the Club in its rise through the ranks, especially its long awaited return to the top section, will be indelibly etched into the annals of the Club.

Steven came to the CGFC at a critical time following on from some frustrating results in previous final series. He proceeded to build a young squad into a highly skilled and committed group, suitably drilled in the most up to date style of football. The efforts of Steven and his squad were rewarded with the 2011 Premier B Section premiership and elevation to the top section of amateur football for the first time in 26 years. Steven’s experience and exceptional ability was evident from the start and he left no stone unturned in reaching the Club’s goal of a return to A Section amid some very exciting finals culminating in the great premiership win in 2011.

Despite the disappointment of the past season when an unprecedented turnover of players was necessary due to injury and unavailability, the efforts of the players to never give in were evident and was testimony to Steven’s efforts throughout 2012.

We thank Steven for his dedication in what has been a demanding and frustrating season and especially for the part he has played in returning our Club to a position of respect and potential in the top sections of amateur football.

Retiring Club President, Matthew Scholten, will head up a specially formed sub-committee to consider appropriate applications for the senior coaching position over the coming weeks. With the continuing development of our youthful and talented senior squad, the improvement in performance of our Under 19 team and extra efforts in nurturing our home grown and external recruits, we will continue to consolidate our position as a permanent member club in the senior sections of the VAFA.

We also thank our players, family members and supporters for the ongoing commitment to CGFC. We look forward to taking all with us on another exciting ride in 2013 and beyond.
