Yarra Valley were the best team in Division 3 for 18 of the 20 games they had played coming into the Grand Final and in their 21st match of the year, they managed to ensure that they were crowned the best team of season 2012 after claiming the Division 3 Premiership against Ivanhoe by 84 points.
The Division 3 Grand Final had everyone interested to see if Ivanhoe could pull off the same surprise result of the second semi final and trump the Bushrangers for the second time in a row in the decider at Trevor Barker Oval.
At half time it looked as though the team containing the centurion goal kicker Ash Close and the Hutchinson Medalist Paul Harris were on the way to adding premiership medals to their individual honours this year.
Ivanhoe lead by eight points at the main break having held the Bushrangers goalless in the opening quarter.
The third term was about regaining control of the contest for yarra Valley who kicked the first goals of the second half in quick succession and ended the term with a three quarter time lead of nine points.
Ivanhoe had overturned a deficit into the wind a fortnight earlier to win the second semi so this margin did not seem beyond them.
Ivanhoe wouldn’t score again for the game.
Yarra Valley celebrated every goal – all eleven of them – as only a club does when on the way to a premiership.
The Bushrangers kicked 11.8 for the quarter to blow the margin out to a staggering 83 points.
The Yeo’s each booted five but the best on the ground medal went to Sam Collie for his efforts throughout the contest.
It was a double celebration for Yarra Valley as their Reserves also defeated Ivanhoe to allow the club to claim two premierships in 2012.
