From formation to A-Grade: Old Geelong Women’s makes history
Old Geelong Football Club opened its 2025 season in historic fashion, with its women’s side marking their first year in the William Buck Premier competition with two wins straight out
Julian Rowe trumped teammate and Woodrow Medalist to win the Old Carey Best and Fairest award for 2012.
In an emotional night at a packed Harbour View Room in Docklands, the club said thank you and farewell to departing senior coach Trevor Rowe who led the club to Premier Section for the first time in its history when they claimed the 2010 Premier B flag.
Julian Rowe (no relation to the coach) won the count comfortably from Big V representative centre half back Lachlan McQueen-Miscamble, with Woodrow Medalist Cam Howat taking third.
Whilst outside observers might be shocked at the result, everyone internally believed that Rowe was a lay down mezzare to take the top honour.
Best clubman went to former SANFL footballer and old Carey school boy James Rimington who returned to Old Carey in 2012.
Alexander Thompson won the Reserves Best and Fairest with Jordan Ceppi and Charlie Wood sharing the U19 honours.
Damien Yze was awarded both the club and Premier competition leading goalkicker awards.
Departing coach Trevor Rowe was sent off in style and was pleased to be leaving the club in such a strong position.
Old Carey expect to announce a replacement coach in the coming weeks.
